The Best Product Rarely Wins, and Here’s Why
Have you ever wondered why a mediocre product is often more popular and gets more sales and interest when there are clearly other better products out there?
I’m sure you are familiar with some products or services that you and many other people think are crap, but despite this, they are still topping the charts (whether that’s for revenue, market share, traffic, engagement, you name it) and are hugely successful.
So why does in many cases the best product never wins and the more mediocre one dominates the market? Well, it’s simple:
MARKETING.
That’s it.
There’s nothing else to it. They are simply better at marketing than anyone else. Many big companies out there reinvest almost half of their revenue back into marketing. They get to such a level that they don’t need marketing anymore, yet they still do it anyway, just to make sure that they are constantly in your face.
People think the best product naturally rises to the top, but history says otherwise.
Think about VHS vs. Betamax, Windows vs. Mac in the early days, or even bottled water, none of these won because they were “the best.” They won because they were marketed better.
The lesson? Don’t just build. Sell.
Your product doesn’t need to be perfect; it needs to be seen, understood, and desired.
So there you go. If you have a not-so-great product or service, you might still make it work if you’re great at marketing, whether that’s digital marketing, attraction marketing, or whatever else you plan on doing. The more you mention your brand the more people will buy into it (literally).
Cheers,
Stephen
